My impressions and review:
There’s a lot of Manabi Straight fans out there but I am not one of them, and it’s exactly for the reasons you may think.
Manabi Straight is actually a well produced anime with a ton of visual and audio talent behind it. My problem with the show is it’s huge cute factor coupled with a childish simplicity. It’s so cute and so simple that I feel dirty and stupid watching it.
To anyone with normal sexual inclinations this show will definitely scream “loli.” Those of you defending the age of consent in Japan being 13 have to realize that the girls in Manabi Straight do not act like proper fine women at all. The reason is simple, they are trying to sell underage moe attitude and personalities glazed with the security of supposed “safe to hit” age of consent. It’s a dirty tactic that continues to reel in the pervs, but unlike something like Ichigo Mashimaro, there’s not much else besides loli moving on the screen.
There’s hardly any verbal immersion so most of the catch in Manabi Straight is visual. I can honestly say that the art and animation is superb, especially when they choose some really crazy “camera angles” to exemplify the cutesy nature of the girls. As much as it’s pretty to look at, I don’t get goosebumps watching overly cute girls smear the screen with cute flower-power attitude. For those of you that have those inclinations, you will probably love it. This is as girlie as it can get, so if you’re into that, be my guest. One thing is a real life baby or child and the emotional attachment towards a new born life, but another thing is a really cutesy animated girl meant to stir sexual desires in the most twisted ways you can think of.
The show also sprinkles a little bit of slapstick humor that I did not find in the least bit funny. Ichigo Mashimaro is tons better in that regard. It’s like a quasi-serious drama of cute girls trying to make everything in their path cute and happy and not so mundane and boring. I guess it somehow ties in with the “story,” if you will, that says that in the year 2035 there is a sudden lack of childbirth. This makes school less fun and lively because there’s less kids to interact with. Manabi’s happy-go-lucky personality is supposed to change that, of course, but the background story doesn’t really matter in this anime. I did like the futuristic gadgets such as the electronic desks, crazy cellphones that looked like iPhone’s of the future, and other stuff.
In the end, no, I don’t doubt myself but this anime is terribly obvious in what it’s trying to do. I don’t think I can swallow watching little girls spread their legs all day long while having background and foreground objects blocking “it” and not feel like something is wrong with me.
Lolicons, it’s easter… if you know what I mean.

I believe I stopped at the 3rd episode. Does it really matter? It’s not like it changes beyond what I said, and I admitted there is an audience for this kind of show that I am just not part of.

I’m ready to drop it on episode one! It’s not a bad series, but, as you mention, it *tries*. IMO, it tries a little too hard, and, like yourself, I’m reminded of Ichigo Mashimaro, which seems to just do things, and ends up doing it well.
Well, it wasn’t supposed to be pure comedy. Was that the expectation?
shure its a little on the perverted side but if you can get past the first few eps its not bad after the story picks up around eps 7 i watched the 12 that was out ~ gonna look for the 13th that came out on dvd ~.~ hard to find many tho that is subbed in english… but i guess not all people can stand little cute animes like me that turn out a little perverted…. your forgeting one thing… its japinese… most japinese animes are perverted in one way or another i mean… they did invent hentai afterall… hope next time people watch the hole story before you look down on something… stoping at eps 1-3 … what a joke didnt really give it a chance…(btw weee i got all that off my sholders) time to find eps 13 !
Lol. Whatever. If you haven’t already watch Ichigo Mashimaro, it’s many orders of magnitude better than this.
