My impressions and review:
I, My, Me – Strawberry Eggs has more wrong with it than just its absurdly strange name. The story is about a guy who graduated college and wishes to become a P.E. teacher. However, he went to a school that is working on becoming an all-girls school, hence they will only hire female teachers. The position is open, but since he’s a guy he can’t take the job. The landlord where he’s staying needs him to pay the rent, but also has a grudge with the school’s principle and just like in most stupid anime she helps the guy out of the blue to get the job. Her solution is to make the guy a woman. It reminded me of Mrs. Doubtfire if anyone’s seen that movie.
Without much of an explanation the guy turns into a girly girl with a bit of make up and fake boobs, and the old lady even gives him a necklace that turns his voice into a woman’s voice. Now he goes to the school and has to impress the principle that “she’s” worthy of teaching her students. The principle assigns him the task to make a girl run 50 meters without falling. To make it difficult she gets the clumsiest girl at the school to do it. The girl , thanks to the charisma the new would-be P.E. teacher has is able to run 50 meters without falling down until the very end, and the guy becomes the P.E. teacher.
As with most anime that I drop, this school comedy just isn’t funny and doesn’t have any meaningful characters. The perverted old men, the “stupid” male students, the feisty flower power girls, and the cross-dressing teacher don’t project any type of unique presence at all. The times when the show tries to be serious and promote comradery between the guys and girls it falls apart because its just so soul-less and awkward. The show doesn’t have any defining attributes such as moe, fanservice, or good slapstick comedy. The clumsy girl, who doesn’t show interest in guys cause she’s really childish seems to fall in love with the new P.E. teacher. It’s gross, but at the same time not so much, and when I think about it it’s a wasted opportunity for some really fun comedy, but it just isn’t what it could be.
